The SARCPL hosted its first Day Seminar of the year on the 3rd of May. The Day Seminar series is open to the public. The topic of the seminar was the Constitutional Court’s Agri SA decision on mineral rights, which was recently handed down. The speakers who presented formal lectures were Prof Hanri Mostert (UCT) and Prof Max du Plessis (UKZN). Prof Max du Plessis was also part of the amicus curiae’s team of counsel in the case and gave valuable insights into the court procedure and the facts leading up to the decision. In the centre is Prof Elmarie van der Schyff (NWU) who was part of the discussion panel led by Prof AJ van der Walt. The discussion raised important questions regarding the impact of the Court’s decision and led to a stimulating debate. The SARCPL’s next Day Seminar, which will focus on the Constitutional Court’s decision in Opperman (dealing with the National Credit Act) takes place at Unisa in Pretoria on 27 October 2013.
