Professor Dieter Grimm, former Justice of the German Federal Constitutional Court, visited the SARCPL on 21 October and presented a seminar on the interpretation and application of the German property clause (Article 14 of the Basic Law). He also shared his experience as a sitting judge on the crucial restitution cases that the Court heard during the re-unification of Germany.
Professor Grimm is a professor at the Humbolt University in Berlin, a guest professor at Yale Law School and New York University Law School and a Permanent Fellow and former Director of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Berlin Institute for Advanced Study). He is visiting Stellenbosch as a Fellow of the Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Study (STIAS).
