Prof Bram Akkermans, is an Associate Professor of European Private Law at the Faculty of Law, Maastricht University and a fellow of the SARCPL. In March 2015 he visited the SARCPL and presented a seminar on the numerus clausus of property rights.
Professor Akkermans obtained a doctoral degree at Maastricht University in 2008. His doctoral thesis concerns the principle of numerus clausus and concepts of ownership in Europe, and creates a framework for harmonisation of property law in Europe by comparing the legal systems of the Netherlands, Germany, France, England and South Africa. He has remained actively involved in the activities of the SARCPL since his first visit to Stellenbosch to conduct doctoral research.
